Three ferry operators serve the Isle of Wight, operating six routes in all.
Wightlink - Operate a high speed passenger ferry from Portsmouth Harbour railway station to Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight. Island Line Trains operate rail services from Ryde Pier Head serving the Island towns of Ryde, Brading, Sandown, Lake & Shanklin. A direct interchange with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is provided at Smallbrook Junction on steam operating days only. In addition Wightlink operate two car ferry routes from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and Lymington to Yarmouth.
Red Funnel - Operate two routes from Southampton, a high speed passenger ferry to Cowes and a car ferry service to East Cowes. A free shuttle bus service is provided from Southampton Central railway station to the ferry terminals.
Hovertravel - Operate a high speed passenger only hovercraft service from Southsea to Ryde. A shuttle bus service operates from Portsmouth Hard Interchange and Portsmouth & Southsea railway station to the Hovercraft terminal. At Ryde the railway station (Ryde Esplanade) is located within a short walk of the hovercraft terminal via a footbridge crossing the railway line.
