Issue 11: Which half of the train?

The following answer was published in Issue 11 (Jul/Aug 2005) of e-motion magazine.

Question

Why do the departure boards at London Waterloo advise us to get on the front half of the train for stations beyond Salisbury, when the guard on the train tells us that only the rear three carriages go beyond Salisbury? This has happened to me three times recently and is very confusing. It means having to change coaches at Salisbury or getting left behind!

Answer

This is simply due to human error in not updating our Customer Information System with any late alterations. We’ve explained to employees how important it is to get this information right, and we hope we can avoid this confusion in the future.
