Issue 11: Ticket class

The following answer was published in Issue 11 (Jul/Aug 2005) of e-motion magazine.

Question

Why are Standard Class tickets accepted for travel in the First Class compartment on the Windsor and Eton line?

Answer

When our new Desiro trains began operating on the Windsor and Eton line, we considered offering a First Class product on this route. However, we decided against it because these services are so busy during peak hours that it would have meant forcing Standard Class passengers into seven carriages while we used the eighth carriage for First Class. We also felt that even if we did attempt to introduce this service, it would simply be too busy for us to supervise it effectively. So, we decided to “declassify” the First Class accommodation on the route.
