Issue 13: Facilities at Putney station

The following answer was published in Issue 13 (Nov/Dec 2005) of e-motion magazine.

Question

Putney station has most of its London Waterloo-bound services departing from a previously little-used platform. When can we expect to have some facilities, such as heated waiting areas and catering, for instance, for this now-busy location?

Answer

There are waiting shelters on the platform to which you refer at Putney (Platform 1), which have been installed within the past six months, as well as a coffee shop on the station’s island platform. However, we recognise that Putney is a busy station and we’re currently looking at the feasibility of installing additional facilities. But it would require significant investment from the Department for Transport and Network Rail, which have to consider Putney station’s needs along with other investment priorities. Unfortunately, given that there is only have a short amount of time left to run on our franchise, it’s not something that South West Trains can finance without support.
