Issue 3: Train destination on depature boards

The following answer was published in Issue 3 (Mar/Apr 2004) of e-motion magazine.
Question Why are trains on departure boards at London Waterloo advertised as going to Addlestone and then confusingly called the Weybridge service by the guard, the indicator on the front of the train and the announcer at Vauxhall? Some people think they've joined the wrong service.
Answer

This does cause confusion, but the reason for advertising the trains as Addlestone only at London Waterloo is because, although the trains go on to Weybridge, they go a longer, circular route, and take twice as long as the direct services via Surbiton. South West Trains passengers intending to travel to Weybridge are best served by the Weybridge via Surbiton service for a quicker journey.
