Issue 5: Insufficient parking

The following answer was published in Issue 5 (Jul/Aug 2004) of e-motion magazine.
Question I drive to the station every day. Some days the car park is full and I have to park on a nearby street. How is South West Trains monitoring station parking to ensure it is sufficient to meet demand, and how is it planning to increase parking at overcrowded station car parks?
Answer

Parking at stations is monitored on a four-weekly basis to assess trends and enable us to evaluate and develop possible expansions. We appreciate that a number of car parks are already full and we are working with partners and planning authorities to increase capacity where possible. For example, we are looking at a major scheme at Southampton Airport (Parkway) and we are also preparing proposals for minor car park expansions at Guildford, Winchfield, Esher and Weybridge, which, subject to final planning approval, will be implemented during 2004. We will keep passengers informed of the progress of these developments.
