There is a wide range of discount schemes for full-time students, as well as young people–eligibility is usually determined by where you live, where you wish to travel to and, in some instances, the purpose of the trip.
For registered schools within London, we offer a Student Travelcard at 30% discount on the equivalent adult rate Travelcard. These can be purchased for a week or any period between a month and a year and can be used for commuting and leisure journeys. A student photocard is required at the time of purchase and can be obtained from Transport for London on 0870 443 1045.
In addition, we participate in Transport for London's School Party Travel Scheme, which entitles free travel for pre-booked school groups at off-peak times on the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, Tramlink, National Rail services in the Greater London area, and buses. Outside London, many local authorities and colleges have schemes that provide discounted or subsidised travel to/from college, but few arrangements exist for discounts for school students over and above the standard half-price fare enjoyed by all those aged five to 15 years inclusive. Our most popular scheme is the Surrey Student Fare Card, available to full-time further education students resident in Surrey. Fare Card holders qualify for 50% discount to travel to/from college and also enjoy discounts for leisure journeys within the scheme area on weekday evenings and at weekends. For ad-hoc group travel involving 10 or more people, we offer discounts for off-peak journeys, subject to availability, if booked in advance. It can be booked through our Group Travel Team by telephoning 023 8072 8162.
Finally, the Young Persons Railcard, which costs £20, is valid for a year and entitles the holder (age 16 to 25 years) to a onethird discount on most travel in Britain (although minimum fare levels apply most of the year in the mornings). These can be purchased at staffed ticket offices or by calling our Customer Service Centre on 0845 6000 650.
