I heard that South West Trains would be asking passengers to pay a ‘congestion charge’ during peak time travel. Is this true?
There is no plan to introduce congestion charging on the railway. The publicity you refer to was sparked by a report from the Association of Train Operating Companies, which looked at the whole issue of capacity on Britain's railways and considered a number of options, one of which was congestion charging. The decision as to how Britain tackles the growth on the railways will ultimately lie with the government.
