We will be receiving 17 additional four-car Class 450 Desiro units later this year, which have been funded by the Department for Transport. This move will provide an extra 6,000 seats a day. We shall also be exchanging our two-car Class 170 diesel multiple units for three-car class 158 units, which will provide an extra 650 seats a day on the busy West of England services.
Our Class 455 suburban units are currently undergoing a £67 million refurbishment. This move will make room for an extra 60 passengers per four-car train, a vital step in easing over-crowding. We expect the refurbishment programme, which covers all 91 units, to be complete by spring 2008.
