Why do trains miss stations when they are running late?
When a train is running late, every effort has to be made to minimise the delay and the impact that this has on other services. Even a delay of a few minutes can result in a train losing its ‘slot’ on both the tracks and the platform. This, then has a domino effect on other trains, especially if a train arrives late at Waterloo and is unable to start its return journey on time. We only miss stations where there is no other alternative and when it is the best option for the majority of passengers.
