Britain is full of people who give their time to charities and South West Trains is no exception, discovers William Higgins

Buzz Lightyear, Batman and Robin, Andy Pandy, Scooby Doo and Snow Queen were just some of the people you may have spotted on our heritage line from Brockenhurst to Lymington Pier last December.
These colourful characters were guests on our special Dream Train service that we operated over the weekend of 8 and 9 December as part of a huge family event in Lymington. The town was transformed into a series of children’s fantasies—Harry Potter, Narnia, Alice In Wonderland and Pirates of the Caribbean—to raise funds for the Dreams Come True charity.
Many of our employees gave their time to join in the fun, putting on fancy dress and welcoming passengers at stations and on trains. For our younger travellers, it was a chance to meet some of their favourite cartoon, comic book and nursery rhyme characters. We donated all the money raised from train ticket sales over the two days—a total of £2,000—to Dreams Come True, which makes the dreams of children and young adults with terminal or serious illnesses come true. We would like to thank everyone who supported us.

As a train operating company, we are very much part of the local communities we serve. That’s why we aim to help community projects and local initiatives, such as the Dreams Come True Weekend in Lymington. And we particularly target charities involved in offering young people new opportunities and alternatives to hanging out on street corners and around train stations.
And it doesn’t stop there. Many of our employees also volunteer their spare time to help good causes close to their hearts. Here are some of the ordinary, extraordinary stories of the great things they do...
