Network Rail are due to begin installing 137 ticket gates on the main concourse at London Waterloo as well as the peak-hour subway connecting platform exits to the Jubilee and Bakerloo Lines.
The automatic ticket gates, expected to be operational by early 2009, are part of our commitment to stop fraudulent travel and introduce smart ticketing to give passengers greater flexibility. When installed and fully working, the gates will ease congestion from the platforms to the concourse as well as the station overall.
You will begin to see some of the retail outlets along platform entrances close. This is to allow Network Rail to embark on this major project. We ask you to bear with us while this work is carried out. This will not affect the normal services operating into and out of London Waterloo.
