A helping hand for Portchester Youth Club

Aided by our £2,000 donation, a youth club has been set up for the youngsters of Portchester.

Westlands Youth Club was set up with the help of Dave Cannons, who works at London Waterloo station. Dave secured a £2,000 donation to fund laptops with educational software. Since the youth club started the attendees have had talks from all the emergency services as well as our Youth Education Manager.

Sarah Moss, Centre Manager for the Westlands Youth Group said:
“Funding for organisations such as ourselves is vital and we would like to express our thanks to South West Trains for their donation. Membership has now reached over 50 with weekly sessions where young people enjoy not only the Internet wireless-enabled laptops but play pool, table tennis, table football, arts, crafts and games. We are now open an additional evening as a coffee shop for ages 14+ with a free ‘drop in’ session where we provide health and general information for young people.”

Mark Dunn, Portsmouth Area Manager, said:
“It’s vital that we give young adults something constructive to do in their spare time and the Westlands Youth Centre provides youngsters with a fun and educational experience which detracts from the dangerous pastime of using the railway as a playground.”
