Accessibility and affordability

We are committed to taking steps to make our rail services as accessible and affordable as we can.

We have made significant investment in measures to assist people with mobility difficulties, improving integration between rail and bus services and developing new ideas to deliver good value travel to customers.

Affordability

Rail travel is a good value stress-free alternative to the car - and far better for the environment. Buying the right ticket is an important part of travelling by train. We want you to select the best value ticket that allows you to travel at the times most convenient to you.

New trains

Our Desiro fleet provides much improved travel facilities for disabled passengers. They have replaced old slam door trains where wheelchair users were forced to travel in the guards van, with no disabled toilet and with no visual information system. The Desiro trains have dedicated facilities, including disabled toilets, audible and visual passenger information systems, push-button entry and exit, assistance alarms and wider doors.

Access and Integration Manager

Our aim is to work to provide an inclusive railway, which is available to as many people as possible. Our Access and Integration Manager is in frequent contact with passengers, other transport providers, local authorities and disability groups on our network. With expertise on the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and other relevant legislation, we make sure that everyone’s rights are respected.

Community rail

We are a key partner in the delivery of the Lymington - Brockenhurst Community Rail Partnership, which has brought together tourism and local economy interests as well as rail industry and local government involvement. It is one of a number of initiatives to develop mainly rural lines to enable them better to serve their local communities and promote a sense of civic pride and 'ownership'.

The Partnership was formally launched in July 2008 on the 150th anniversary of the opening of the line. By using refurbished heritage trains, the partnership is able to keep running costs low.
