Cost review update: Further job reduction proposals
Today (4 February 2009) we have announced proposals to make a further reduction of 180 posts as part of our ongoing review of our cost base. The proposals, which are subject to consultation with employees, are in addition to the 480 job reductions announced last month.
Positions involved include revenue protection roles, ticket office and station staff and further management and administrative posts. Drivers, guards and frontline fleet maintenance staff will not be affected by the proposed changes and we are continuing to operate the same number of train services for our passengers. We are managing our cost base to ensure that we operate as efficiently as we can in view of reduced passenger growth and an increasingly challenging economic climate.
We will continue to review our operation and take any further steps required to ensure we have a secure business for the long term. Our priority will remain maintaining services to our customers, protecting jobs for the majority of our people and providing a strong foundation for growth when the economy improves.
