Cycling Schemes

South West Trains recognises the many benefits of making our stations and train services cycle-friendly. Our cycle strategy is designed to encourage people to use cycles on our network by providing improved access, parking and security at stations, as well as a clear fair and sensible policy for carrying cycles on trains.

South West Trains have cycle hire rental schemes at Waterloo, Richmond and Guildford stations with more to come!

Richmond Cycle Hire Scheme

The Richmond cycle centre and hire scheme is currently open at weekends until the end of October 2012. After this date, bikes would be available for groups upon request.

Guildford Brompton dock

South West Trains have partnered with Brompton Dock to offer a new concept in flexible personal travel. Brompton Dock is a new cycle hire scheme with a dock at Guildford station which holds up to 40 folding Brompton bikes for registered members to take and use as they please.

Brompton bikes create a truly joined up travel system. As well as being comfortable and stylish to ride, they can be folded to go on other forms of transport and stored securely in an office, a car boot - or just about anywhere - which means no more hunting for somewhere to safely lock up your bike.

The current Brompton Dock at Guildford is to be relocated nearer to the station entrance and adjacent to the access routes to the City Centre. At this same time this Dock will be upgraded to operate on text messaging technology so that you can take out and return a bike simply by texting the system.

If you would like to try a brand new way of getting around, simply register here to become a member.
