Opening Ceremony - Saturday 25th June 2011
The Opening Ceremony Parade takes place in Ryde on Saturday 25th June 2011, promising to be an amazing carnival extravaganza, the Opening Ceremony Parade, themed 'An Extraordinary Island' will tell the story of the Isle of Wight as it winds its way through the streets of Ryde from 4pm. Around 1500 young people will perform the 20 'chapters' which depict various historic and folkloric episodes in the history of the Isle of Wight, in a highly choreographed procession parading with athletes from around the world.
Island Line Trains will run extra services between 1100 and 1600, providing a 20 minute interval service between these times. Additionally the 2245 Ryde Pier Head to Ryde St Johns Road service will be extended to serve Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin.
