More safer parking awards for South West Trains

The good security levels at a further 12 of our station car parks have been recognised with ‘Park Mark’ awards.

The Park Mark Safer Parking Award is awarded by the Safer Parking Scheme, which is run by the Association of Chief Police Officers, supported by the Home Office and managed by the British Parking Association.

There are six locations with car parks which have recently received accreditation:

  1. Farncombe (two car parks)
  2. Godalming (two car parks)
  3. Guildford (three car parks)
  4. Woking (three car parks)
  5. Surbiton
  6. Norbiton

Stuart Giddings, South West Trains Head of Security & Crime Prevention, said: “I am delighted that we have achieved an additional 12 Park Mark Awards. This brings the total of car parks which have received the accreditation to 28. The award recognises the investment we have made in our car parks in terms of CCTV and lighting and of course the low levels of crimes at car parks compared to other car parks of similar sizes.”

Figures, provided by the BTP, show that car crime in our car parks has reduced by 37% in 4 years.

Surveys carried out by a police assessor looked at the success of management procedures and security measures. Improvements such as CCTV, lighting, better white lining, fence repairs and landscaping have been made.
