Winners announced in South West Trains' annual stations awards

Our staff are celebrating after the winners of the company’s annual Station Pride Awards were announced. Now in their 12th year, the awards look to recognise the best of the company’s 177 stations under the categories of Best Small Station, Best Medium Station, Best Large Station and Overall Winner.  The judging panel for this year included Jocelyn Pearson and Paul Bentley from Passenger Focus as well as Chief Inspector Alison Palmer from the British Transport Police and South West Trains’ Customer Service Director Ian Johnston.

Salisbury scooped the top award for overall winner this year, as well as being named best medium station.  The judges were particularly impressed with how well the team at the station worked together to deliver the best possible customer service.

In the large stations category, Guildford was named as winner due both to the vast improvements made at the station, and the care and attention given to passengers by the staff there.

At Staines, which picked up the award for best small station, judges praised the way the station had been maintained as well as the positive atmosphere the team had created at the station.

Crewkerne and Waterloo both received highly commended awards.  Of Crewkerne, the judges commented that it was the ‘jewel in the crown of the West of England line’, and Waterloo was also praised for delivering excellent customer in the hub of the South West Trains network. There were also Best in Area awards for New Milton, Portsmouth and Southsea and Raynes Park.

Ian Johnston, Customer Service Director for South West Trains said:  “These awards really are a reflection of the hard work that goes on at our stations day in, day out.  For many passengers travelling with us, the first time they will come into contact with South West Trains is when they arrive at one of our stations, so it’s absolutely crucial that they start their journey with a positive impression”.
