SOUTH WEST TRAINS INVESTS IN STATION IMPROVEMENTS

Rail users will benefit from a further round of investment from South West Trains and its partners by March 2011.

Southampton Airport Parkway  
Southampton Airport Parkway station has recently benefitted from a new footbridge (funded by BAA, DfT and Hampshire County Council), new canopy and cycle improvements with new bike facilities and better integration with the local network (funded partly by South West Trains, under the terms of its franchise agreement and the DfT cycle fund as well as Network Rail). The work is due for completion by summer 2011.

Eastleigh  
Eastleigh station has recently been enhanced by the completion of a new platform entrance improvement which will allow for the footbridge to be accessed without entering the booking hall.

Eastleigh

Guildford  
Guildford station will soon benefit from a new Marks & Spencers food outlet. The new shop is nearing completion and will open in July 2010. The station has already benefitted from a ticket hall upgrade, including a new ticket office and wider access to the platforms from the main entrance.

Kingston

Kingston station has just been upgraded and now benefits from a rebuilt booking hall and new shops. This project was part of South West Trains’ franchise commitment.

Kingston

Hounslow
Hounslow station will benefit from a new booking hall, upgraded passenger facilities and disabled access. The work started on 1st June 2010 and is due to be completed by November 2010. This project is part of the National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP).

Southampton Central (Upside)        
Southampton Central station will benefit from a refurbished booking hall and new ticket office including low level ticket counter and a new shop. The work has started and is due to be completed in September 2010. This project is part of the National Station Improvements Programme (NSIP).

New shops 
Sunningdale, Putney and Salisbury stations all benefit from new shops.

Salisbury
The Ticket Office at Salisbury has been refurbished and now incorporates a DDA low counter ticket window.
 

Portsmouth Harbour
A new platform seat is being trialled at the Portsmouth Hbr station to resolve the problems with salt corrosion.

 

Bracknell
The new forecourt/interchange project at Bracknell which was undertaken in partnership with Bracknell Forest Borough Council is now fully operational and proving to be a great success. These works compliment the Access for All footbridge/lifts which was opened last year.


Raynes Park
Following the recent refurbishment of the Passenger toilets at Raynes Park, new ladies toilets have been provided on platform 2.  
 

Cycle Improvements
As part of the Department for Transport £1m cycle project cycle improvements have recently been undertaken at Claygate, Brookwood and Farnborough.

From August 2010, the following stations will soon be repainted: Bookham, Clandon, Claygate, Hinchley Wood, Horsley, Queenstown Road, Alton, Basingstoke, Farncombe, Farnham, Farnham, Liphook, Milford, Portsmouth Hbr, Whitchurch, Bitterne, Branksome, Brockenhurst, Millbrook, Swanwick, Sway, Swaythling, Sholing, Woolston.


Station improvement
- Honiton station will benefit from major work including new passengers facilities and an improved accessibility of the station.

- Gillingham station will benefit from a comprehensive improvement program with work starting in August 2010
