Great days out by train

Yarmouth is located across the Solent on the Isle of Wight taking a mere 30 minutes by ferry from Lymington Pier. This is the fastest route to the Island. It’s just a stones throw away from the mainland, making it perfect for a short break with the family or weekend getaway. This picturesque town provides an array of attractions and activities that would appeal to the whole family. So why not take a trip around Yarmouth’s own historic Tudor castle or the island planetarium? There is something for everyone in Yarmouth!

Yarmouth Castle

Built in 1547 by Henry VIII, Yarmouth Castle was designed to provide coastal defence for the King against foreign invasion. With outstanding views over the Solent, it is the perfect spot for a family day by the sea. Now owned by English Heritage, the castle exhibites informartion on the many wrecks which occurred in the menacing stretch of sea which the castle overlooks.

The Needles Park

Known as the Isle of Wight's most famous landmark, The Needles Rocks and Lighthouse offers a range of attractions for the whole family. The park is free to enter with other rides and attractions inside being pay-as-you-go. Attractions include the chairlift down to the beach, Alum Bay Glass and Sweet Manufactory.

Yarmouth Pier and Harbour

Yarmouth Pier and Harbour was built in 1876 not only to allow ferries to dock from Lymington but also from other piers and ports not only on the Isle of Wight. The pier is also popular for promenading and fishing.

Fort Victoria Model Railway and Marine Aquarium

At Fort Victoria Model Railway, which is just outside Yarmouth, they have an indoor model railway and shop which is open to the public most of the year. The railway has been at the Fort for the past fifteen years, and still attracts many visitors every year.
