    Island line

Explore the island on our unique electric trains to discover beautiful countryside & sandy beaches.

The Island Line is a train service which runs on the Isle of Wight serving the towns of Ryde, Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin.

With its beautiful sandy beaches, picturesque countryside and amazing festivals, the Isle of Wight really has something for everyone. A short trip by ferry or hovercraft is all that separates the UK mainland from this scenic escape, and with the Island Line network, getting around couldn't be easier.

How to reach the Isle of Wight

    By High Speed Catamaran

Take a trip from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head with Wightlink's High Speed passenger ferry service. Once you’re on the island you can find connecting trains for Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin.

    By Hovercraft

Hovertravel offers a short 10-minute crossing between Southsea (Clarence Pier) and Ryde Esplanade, with handy connections to Island Line Trains services once you arrive.

    Visiting the Steam Railway

A direct interchange with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is available at Smallbrook Junction. Visit the Isle of Wight Steam Railway website for more information, including operating dates and timetables.

    Our Stations

To find out more about the stations along the Island Line, visit our  Network page. You can also find out more about the car parks near our Island Line stations, as well as information for Island Line passengers who have disabilities.

When it comes to visiting a new place, or travelling back to a favourite holiday destination, you want to make sure that you know how to get around. After all, you don’t want to be wasting time waiting around for transport when you could be off enjoying all of the great things to see and do on the Isle of Wight, do you?

Our Island Line timetables allow you to plan your journey well in advance, whether you’re travelling this week or in a few months time. You can use our timetables to work out where you need to be and when; from the moment you leave London Waterloo, travel down to Portsmouth Harbour, cross the channel onto the island and begin your adventure.
