Helping you save money on your fares

When it comes to travelling by train there are tons of different ways to help you save money on your fares. Whether you’re travelling in a group, during Off-peak times or with one of the many railcards on offer, there are a number of things you can do to get you to your destination for less.

    Book online

Get the cheapest fare for your journey by booking in advance online. Our booking system will even show you the trains your ticket is valid on, so you can pick the most appropriate fare for your journey.

Being flexible with your travel time

Sometimes you have no choice when it comes to picking your train times, but for the other times when you can be flexible, doing so can pay off. Off-peak and Super Off-peak tickets are much cheaper than Anytime tickets, so leaving later in the day or getting an evening train can save you a satisfying amount of money and earn you a quieter journey as a bonus.

    Buy a railcard

There are a range of National Railcards that can save you money on rail fares over the year. If you are a student, over 60 or family traveller, you can benefit from railcards, which give you up to 34% off your tickets. They generally pay themselves off after just one or two journeys.

    Buy a Season ticket

If you travel regularly between two stations then a Season ticket could be just what you need to save money. Season tickets can cover everything from one week to a whole year, and means that you can travel whenever you want and make travel work for you. Beat the queues and early morning rushes and save money doing it.

    Buy inclusive tickets

When you are travelling for further or across different networks, purchasing a PLUSBUS or Day Travelcard will save you considerable amounts of time and money. Instead of walking around with countless tickets and passes in your pocket you can spend a little extra on your tickets and make your journey easier.

    Advance tickets

Getting organised and buying in advance not only means you have less to worry about, but it can also save you money. Whether you choose to buy your tickets online, over the phone or from one of our self-service machines, purchasing your tickets in advance means that you can get rightfully rewarded for your prior planning.
